Historically Isabela is known for the (Túnel de Guajacata), an old train tunnel build by Boricuas and Spaniards in the colonization era. The tunnel was used for helping on transportation of sugar cane industry and other cargo initiatives. This old train used to go around the all island of Puerto rico, also it also have been used for passenger transportation. Isabela is very well known for surfing with famous beaches like Jobos beach, Montones beach and Shacks beach. There is an iconic and legendary place called El Pozo of Jacinto, is just some steps in the top rock that helped form the Jobos Beach.

Isabela was founded on May 21, 1819 The town is known as the "Jardín del Noroeste", the "Garden of the Northwest", because of the many wild flowers in its landscape. It is also known as "El Pueblo de los Quesitos de Hoja", the "Town of Leaf Cheeses," for its production of a typical fresh white cheese wrapped in banana plant leaves. Tourism, industry, dairy products, livestock, leather goods and tobacco are the principal economic activities.
